Waves is an acoustic curtain by Kvadrat Acoustics, created to support the rising architectural focus on adaptive reuse and the transformation of industrial and commercial sites into multipurpose spaces for work, culture and living. Designed to integrate seamlessly into existing building structures, Waves provides a flexible acoustic solution that creates private spaces, with elevated aural and visual comfort, within larger environments.
Initially offered as a custom-made acoustic solution, Waves is now a standard product within the Kvadrat Acoustics’ range of acoustic solutions, following years of prototyping and successful installations.
Based on patented principles, the curtain comprises three or four layers depending on the desired acoustic performance: a Kvadrat textile on the front and back with either one or two sound-reducing layers as the inner core. This multilayered design delivers targeted sound-reducing acoustic properties and a flawless wave-like drape by integrating rhythmically arranged patented tapes and hooks that reduce friction between the layers. The elegant, multilayered acoustic curtain is available in seven archetypal Kvadrat textiles, offering a complete scale of colours and textures: Divina 3, Steelcut Trio 3, Highlight, Divina MD, Divina Melange 3, Remix Flow and Twilight.
Excellent for acoustic shielding, Waves excel at reducing the passage of sound between two environments, especially in middle and higher frequencies, where noise is reduced by 12-15dB*. In the shielded environment behind the curtain, this translates into a reduction in the noise passing through the curtain of up to 70%. For optimal acoustic performance, Waves curtains should be installed directly on the ceiling, beam or soffit. However, they can also be delivered with a suspended rail or without a rail. The rails arrive cut to size with ready-made bends. The maximum height of the curtain is 5m, and the maximum width is 5m.
Waves is supported by comprehensive performance documentation, ensuring transparency and confidence in its acoustic properties. All seven textiles available for Waves are Greenguard Gold certified, with six also carrying the EU Ecolabel.
Waves is durable, and easy to maintain. Thanks to the patented confectioning mechanism, the outer layers can be quickly uninstalled for washing or dry cleaning.
* The sound-reducing performance is measured using the Rw value, which indicates how well a wall, door, or curtain reduce sound. This measurement follows the ISO 15186 1 standard, using an intensity probe to assess the directional flow of sound through the curtain. This method ensures precise measurement of how much sound passes through the curtain.
