KVADRAT/RAF SIMONS LAUNCHES TWO NEW TEXTILES AND UPDATES THE DYNAMIC SHAKER SYSTEM UNIVERSE WITH RIA 2 UPHOLSTERY TEXTILE
May 14, 2026

For NYCxDESIGN 2026, Kvadrat presents the latest Kvadrat/Raf Simons upholstery textiles and accessories in its New York showroom through an installation inspired by Raf Simons’ innovative blending of color and material. Marking the launch of two new defining textiles, Hafnon and Vidar Duo, the installation also introduces an expansion of the Shaker System with Ria 2 textile in three classic accessories – cap, slippers and toiletry bag. New accessories including the Vidar Duo throw, Vidar Duo cushion and Hafnon cushion will be previewed during NYCxDESIGN, launching later this year. Also on view will be the Kvadrat/Raf Simons kids accessories introduced in Fall 2025, bringing color, texture, and creativity into the everyday life of children.
The new textiles and accessories is a true representation of the decade-long collaboration between designer Raf Simons and Kvadrat. A partnership founded upon pushing boundaries for upholstery fabrics and accessories incorporating Simons’ unique aesthetic vision and approach to color with Kvadrat’s unparalleled technical expertise.
In developing new upholstery textiles Simons has been delving into fabrics throughout history with a particular focus on those with graphic impact. Hafnon is a stepping stone for this new direction, a fabric that is totally original yet clearly in sync with the broader collection.
For 2026, the new interior products expand upon a dialogue across the entire Kvadrat/Raf Simons collection: upholstery and accessories linked by textiles, textures and color themes. Each desirable in its own right or working harmoniously together. The cushions in Hafnon and Vidar Duo in a variety of sizes and colors are being launched concurrently.
Hafnon is an exquisitely crafted mohair velvet with a kinetic checkerboard effect integrated within the luminous pile. Made in Italy on a rare loom that allows individual thread control, Hafnon reinterprets references to Gustav Klimt and the 1900 Vienna Secessionist movement.
A soft merino wool throw mimicking the mélange effect and muted color pairings of the upholstery textile, Vidar Duo. Delicate and warm the throw has a soft touch of the hand and a subtle depth from the two-way color palette and duo tone fringe. The throw can be used on its own or as a harmonious complement to Vidar Duo upholstery or cushions.
“I have been in love with this technique since I saw a sample of Idun, a floral monochrome mohair jacquard designed by Fanny Aronsen. It is rarely used today as there are only a few looms that weave mohair in this way, where you are essentially working with light and shade,” says Raf Simons. “The mohair has this beautiful shine that sometimes dissolves the pattern and other times makes the pattern stand out more sharply. The surface is alive and it has this rhythm from the graphic geometric repetition in the fine checkerboard grid.”
Vidar Duo is a duotone evolution of the emblematic Kvadrat/Raf Simons textile Vidar with a mélange effect from color pairings that set up the play between the weft of bouclé yarn and the warp, either through nuance or contrast. Simons chose the colors to start a new narrative around Vidar of a soft modern elegance expressed in very deep tones, delicate lights, and through the high contrast of vermillion red and dark jade.
“With Vidar Duo, the characteristics of Vidar are presented in a more diffuse expression with a mélange effect that reveals the almost feathery satiny surface of this classic textile,” says Simons.
The Vidar Duo Throw in soft merino wool, is designed to complement the new textile and mimic its mélange effect in three subtle color pairings. Delicate and warm, the throw has a soft touch of the hand and a subtle depth from its color palette and duo tone fringe.
PRODUCT SPECIFICS – ACCESSORIES
RIA 2 FOR THE SHAKER SYSTEM COLLECTION
Raf Simons introduces a new core textile, Ria 2, to the Shaker System, presenting three classic pieces – the cap, slippers and toiletry bag – in a new context with new colors and a vibrant character. The Ria 2 Collection applies the dynamism and energy of the organic, almost floral abstract textile to the classic Shaker products, each item with small stylish adjustments. Three distinct colorways – Aubergine, Goldenrod yellow, Wisteria pink – expand choices for solo items and combinations with other Shaker System accessories.

NEW ACCESSORIES – CUSHIONS AND THROW
Hafnon cushion
100% mohair (base 100% cotton) - 60x60cm
Hafnon is an exquisitely crafted mohair velvet with a kinetic checkerboard effect integrated within the luminous pile. The natural sheen of the mohair combined with a jacquard shadow structure produces a dynamic interplay of light and shade. Reinterpreting references to the 1900 Vienna Secessionist movement, Hafnon features a modern, rhythmic pattern woven in Italy on a rare loom using variations in pile direction to generate precise durable motifs.
Vidar Duo cushion
94% wool (worsted), 6% nylon - 45x45cm
5 colors – Talc grey/cream (0228), Pale rose/lavender (0628), Dark umber/bottle green (0998), Dark umber/prussian blue (0798), Dark umber/dark indigo (0698)
Vidar Duo is a duotone evolution of Vidar, originally designed by Fanny Aronsen and subsequently recolored by Raf Simons. The mélange effect of the color pairings creates a softer more diffuse expression of Vidar. The dual coloration emphasises the gentle satin surface finish of the textile, woven from bouclé yarns with a regular loop size, and yarn dyed with a weft composed of two colors of similar saturation, though different in hue.
Vidar Duo throw
100% wool - 130x190cm
Dark blue/brown, Dark grey/green, Almond/light rose
A soft merino wool throw mimicking the mélange effect and muted color pairings of the upholstery textile, Vidar Duo. Delicate and warm the throw has a soft touch of the hand and a subtle depth from the two-way color palette and duo tone fringe. The throw can be used on its own or as a harmonious complement to Vidar Duo upholstery or cushions.
