During Salone del Mobile 2023, Kvadrat is showcasing ‘Paravent’,a special installation by Ronan Bouroullec, to celebrate the launch of a textile collection inspired by the designer’s iconic drawings. The collection comprise a series of three upholsteries new graphic expression to the Kvadrat collection.
Tero Outdoor, Sone, and Alle feature patterns that recall the movement and colour nuances of Ronan Bouroullec’s artworks. The colours for the collection explore a scale of hues connected to the designer’s drawings. Ranging from cool, shady notes to brighter and lighter notes, they interact with the textiles’ rich structures to illuminate eye-catching yarn details and intriguing tonalities.
By juxtaposing monochrome lines next to one another, Ronan Bouroullec’s original drawings create organic shapes in abstract compositions. The succession of colourful lines created with markers, graphite or ballpoint pens follow the concept of intuitive drawing. His drawings, formed by the elegant repetition of lines, are the result of meditative sub-consciousness and from the background and inspiration for Alle, Sone and Tero Outdoor.
Ronan Bouroullec: “The journey that led us to Sone, Tero Outdoor and Alle started with a simple question. How can we translate the essence of the drawings into textiles?”
Alle
Alle is a soft woollen upholstery featuring an organic line pattern. The textile’s pattern features yarns that stretch from selvedge to selvedge, which flow across and seemingly dissolve into its surface. These tactile, three-dimensional forms capture a sense of the rich strokes that characterise Ronan Bouroullec’s drawings and illuminate a vibrant interplay between matt and lustre.
Bouroullec: “Alle offers an atmospheric translation of the pen strokes and colours that comprise my artworks. Through the prism of rich materiality, it expresses the therapeutic back-and-forth movements I make when drawing.”
The colour palette for Alle comprises a scale of mainly cool, neutral and brick-coloured notes. The contrast in relief between the flat base and the raised ‘brushstrokes’ reveals different sides to these elegant shades.
Sone
Sone is a unicoloured upholstery textile featuring a subtle graphic design with intersecting fields of linear textures. The contrast of the Salone del Mobile 2023 different multidirectional pattern play across Sone’s surface, which gives a pronounced tactility and depth, with the structure of the pattern emerging from changes in the direction of the lines.
In this way, Sone captures the sense of the textural zones and movement that represents Ronan Bouroullec’s artworks. The expression of the textile takes further inspiration from landscapes, as if looking down on fields from a plane flying above.
The colour palette for Sone unites a scale of bright hues with notes of vibrant green and yellow to the softer brick-tones. These are characterised in Ronan Bouroullec’s celebrated drawings and coordinated with the other textiles in the collection.
Tero Outdoor
Tero Outdoor by Ronan Bouroullec is a subtly graphic upholstery for outdoor environments. Tactile jacquard-woven lines crisscross Tero Outdoor’s surface at various angles, creating an abstract, threedimensional pattern. The expression of the textile takes further inspiration from landscapes, as if looking down on fields from a plane flying above.
Bouroullec: “Tero Outdoor embodies a new approach to discreet graphic expression and the world of textiles suitable for outdoor use.”
Tero Outdoor is constructed from post-consumer recycled polyester. It features an environmentally-focused, fluorocarbon-free construction. It provides resistance against chlorine, seawater and artificial weathering. In addition to its technical features, it also stands out for a soft touch compared to other outdoor fabrics.
The colour scale for Tero Outdoor comprises a scale of cool translucennuances, as the textile is woven with three different coloured yarns. These shades combine to subtly illuminate details in the relief of the pattern, adding extra dimensions of depth to the textile.
